General Washing Instructions Prepping Prefolds
Wool
Everyone seems to have their own special way of washing cloth diapers. Remember there is no hard and fast rules for cloth diaper washing. What might work for you may not work for others. It is best to follow manufacturer instructions when caring for your cloth diapers.

Follow these easy instructions for pre-washing your cloth diapers prior to the first use.

Pre-Washing Micro-Fiber and Polyester Products:
Fasten laundry tabs on items that have Velcro. Wash with a small amount of detergent. Do not pre-wash polyester products with natural fibers; this may cause pilling of the fleece.
Pre-washing Natural Cotton or Hemp Products:
Wash 3-5 times in hot water with a tiny bit of detergent. This enables the diapers to absorb properly. Dry between each wash for proper sizing.
Wool Products:
Wash wool products in lukewarm water using a wool-safe wash. Make sure the water is not too hot or cold, this may shock the wool. It is best to use a wash with lanolin or add lanolin to the first wash. Urine reacts with the lanolin to form a natural soap, this makes your wool self-cleaning between washes! Roll in a towel and lay flat to dry.

Washing Instructions after initial pre-washing:
Once pre-washing is completed, all of your diapers can be washed together. Use a small amount of detergent. Too much detergent can leave a residue on your diapers and they will lose absorbency. Use about ½ the detergent you normally would, even less for front-loading machines. Use a Cold Rinse/ Warm or Hot wash/ Cold Rinse/ Second Cold Rinse.
